| The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has roped in India’s L’il Champs to be part of this year’s Indian Arrival celebrations at the National Stadium. Yatharth RatnumThe winners of the 2009 ZEE TV Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs – Hemant Brijwasi,Bvb Trikot Ausw?rts, Shreyasi Bhattacharjee and Yatharth Ratnum – are expected to perform a diverse selection of songs on Saturday May 8, the Sabha announced Monday.The “little bak bak machine” Afsha Musani will also be coming to keep the kids especially entertained as she takes patrons through the programme. The Sabha’s Dharmic Nritya Sangh will be performing along with the L’il Champs.VIP tickets are available for this special show at $2000 at the Kendra only.The performance of the L’il Champs is part of the Sabha’s grand celebration to mark the 172nd anniversary of the arrival of the first East Indians to Guyana. The celebrations will take place on May 8 and 9.The Sabha’s theme for this year is the “Celebration of Culture and Traditions”. Patrons can expect interactive displays illustrating festivals, celebrations, art-forms and practices linked to Indo-Guyanese history.Afsha MusaniPersons can step for a moment back in time – get dressed on spot in dhoti, jhoola, ghangri, romal and pagri and have their photos snapped. Ladies can have intricate patterns of Mehendi applied on their hands and fancy bindis applied on their foreheads.Innovative and fun games for the entire family especially children will be part of the attractions, the Sabha said. Traditional foods served hot from the tawa and karaahi will be on sale. A variety of chokas, curries, rotis and potato balls, samosas, and other tasty dishes will be in abundance, the Sabha stated, noting that a lavish and tempting spread of Indian sweets will be available for everyone.Stage shows are planned for both days. The L’il Champs will perform on Saturday, while on Sunday, Andy Singh of the Karma and Melobugz bands from Trinidad will be performing along with top Guyanese singers Sookrane Boodhoo, Rekha Singh, Mona, Mohan Nandu, Ramkissoon Singh and the Sabha’s young team of Emerging Voices. A special presentation will be done on child abuse.Gates open at 14:00 hrs each day and stage programmes begins at 18:00 hrs on both days.Tickets for both days cost $300.
