EDINBURGH, BERBICE – The Administration of the Edinburgh Primary School launched a Reading Room in honour of their top student at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment, Raman Arjune.Raman, who ranked ninth in Guyana and was also the top performer in Region Six, scored 559 marks and gained a place at Queens College in Georgetown.Edinburgh Primary for the first time made its mark on the performance map when it gained two places at top schools in Georgetown.The centre, which is the size of a regular classroom, was furnished by the Head Teacher, Rose Dos Ramos and her family members,Cheap Jerseys, many of whom reside overseas. The Raman Arjune Reading Room, besides reading and research materials, is stocked with educational CDs and DVDs.The Head Teacher hopes that the inscription on the plaque, ‘A child who reads succeeds’ which hangs on the door of the Reading Room would be that motivating factor for the remaining students.The dedication ceremony was done during the recent annual Speech Day and Prize Giving Ceremony. The 12-year old received two trophies for being the Top Performer in Region Six and the top student for the Edinburgh Primary. He also copped the four prizes for the Top Mathematics, English Language, Social Studies and Science Student.Other high flyers at the National Grade Six Assessment for that school were 12-year old, Hardat Chan, with 531 marks and Ometta Sharma.Hardat now attends the President’s College and Ometta the New Amsterdam Multilateral School.Top students in all levels for the 2008/2009 academic year were also given books and trophies. The trophies were donated by Managing Director of the P&P Brokers, Bish Panday, while the books were had through the compliments of Inderia Rooney of Canada. |
