Six persons were yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of Alfred Munroe, called ‘Guana man’.The six accused are Rudolph Samuels, 21 years, of Free Yard, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Aris Cecil called ‘Safick’, 20 years, of Free Yard, Port Mourant, Richard Griffith, called ‘Brick Head’, 18 years, of Free Yard, Port Mourant, Michael Lewis called ‘Mikey’, 27 years, of Free Yard, Port Mourant, Jafar Seetaram, 19 years, of Rose Hall Town, and Khrishnaraj Jagdeo called ‘Chris’, 47 years, of Free Yard, Port Mourant.Zafar SeetaramThe accused made their appearance at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud.It is alleged that on Friday May 10th at Port Mourant they murdered 55 year-old Alfred Munroe. The charge was indictable and they were not required to plea. They have all been remanded to prison and will make their next court appearance on May 20th.Initial reports are that Munroe was attacked and beaten by the group of persons on Friday morning last after he was accused of breaking into a boutique and stealing items.Munroe called ‘Guana Man’ of Ulverston, Corentyne, and 18-year-old Annie Persaud, called ‘Short Hair’ of Rose Hall, were picked up from a location called Bound Yard on Friday last by the owner of a boutique and some of his relatives.Residents claimed that they saw the group mercilessly beating the two persons and they were urged to stop and take the two badly injured persons to the nearest police station – the Rose Hall Town Outpost – and they subsequently agreed to do so.When ranks at the outpost were notified about the incident and realized that the victims had not yet been brought there,Air Force 1 Australia Womens, they went to the scene to investigate. Upon arriving, the ranks were told that the two persons were already taken to the station, but the individual transporting them had used a different route.According to a police statement, “The police subsequently intercepted the vehicle at Williamsburg, Corentyne, and found Munroe and Persaud called “Short Hair”, 18 years, in the trunk of the vehicle tied with rope and with visible signs of injuries about their bodies. They were taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where Alfred Munroe succumbed to his injuries while Annie Persaud was treated and sent away. A post mortem examination revealed that Munroe died as a result of shock and haemorrhage. There are also reports that over the weekend Persaud had to be rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she remains a patient.Khruhnaraj Jagdeo |
