John Williams of Four Miles, Port Kaituma, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court,Scarpe Nike Nuove, to answer to the charge of larceny.The allegation against Williams is that between June 11 and 12, last, at Bruce Peters’ Hotel, Port Kaituma, North West, he stole one All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) valued at 3.2 million dollars, the property of Ray Martin.Williams pleaded not guilty to the charge.Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunte told the court that on the day in question, June 11, at Bruce Peters’ Hotel, Martin parked his All-Terrain Vehicle under the building and went to bed. Hunte stated that when the complainant got up the following morning, June 12, he noticed that his ATV was missing. A report was made to the Port Kaituma police station.Martin then acted on information received when he and several police ranks went to Four Miles, Port Kaituma, and found his ATV parked by the defendant’s residence.Williams was then told of the allegation made against him and he denied it. He was then arrested and charged with the offence.The magistrate granted bail in the sum of $200,000 and the matter was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court. Williams is expected to make his next appearance on August 2.
