LBI fatal accident…Divisional Commander of the Police East Coast Demerara Division, Gavin Primo, has assured that the family of an LBI man, who was killed in an accident with a car driven by a policeman two months ago, will get justice.The Commander was responding to queries about the status of the matter since the relatives of Doodnauth Persaud were beginning to harbour thoughts of a police cover-up.On February 5, last, Persaud, 23, a fitter machinist attached to the GUYSUCO LBI Estate, was struck down by a car PNN 1828, which was being driven by the policeman,Cheap Wholesale Jerseys, while he was riding his motorcycle along the LBI Public Road.He succumbed to his injuries three days later while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.Since then the man who struck him down, Dwayne Roberts, of Annandale East Cast Demerara has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, but his relatives believes that there is some level of procrastination with regards to the charge relating to his death.“The eyewitness said that he (car driver) came out holding his head and saying that he did not see Doodnauth,” said Rooplall Persaud, the dead man’s father, adding that his son’s motorcycle had functioning lights when the accident occurred.Persaud is not convinced that the police took the matter seriously from the inception since the investigating rank did not even mark the scene of the accident as is necessary.“He (investigating rank) just moved the bike and told the driver (of the car) to proceed to the Beterverwagting Police Station. When we asked him why he did not mark the scene, he said that he did not have paint,” Persaud said.He explained that the police released the cop’s car three days after the accident, while it took more than three weeks for him to collect the mangled motorcycle.According to Persaud, whenever he enquired from the police about the status of the matter, he got the usual “the file is with the DPP”.“What is painful is that the man who killed my son has not been charged. He’s just driving around,” Rooplall Persaud said.“We had to go and get our own witnesses to give statements to the police. They haven’t done any investigations,” he added.On Friday Assistant Commissioner Primo, said that as recent as last Thursday, he had cause to enquire from the Divisional Traffic Officer about the progress of the investigations.LBI accident victim Doodnauth Persaud He said that since the person involved is a public officer, certain procedures have to be followed.Primo said that the relatives can rest assured that justice will prevail in the matter as early as this week.
