As Education Month continues under the theme “Child Friendly Home: Child Friendly Classrooms-Quality Education” the Ministry of Education distributed attendance and punctuality certificates and special awards to students of various schools, at the National Gymnasium, yesterday.In the category of Primary Schools, West Ruimveldt Primary was awarded for its overall attendance rate for the academic year, while for the secondary category, St Stanislaus College was awarded. Thirty-six of the 75 primary and secondary schools received certificates. However, schools were asked to make submissions of the names of students who made 98 to 100 per cent of attendance.Some of the schools that received certificates were St Margaret’s Primary,Discount Nike Air Force One Shoes, North Georgetown Primary, St Pius Primary, F.E Pollard Primary, Tucville Primary, South Ruimveldt Primary, West Ruimveldt Primary,Nike Air Max 97 Silver Bullet Australia, Comenius Primary, Stella Maris Primary, North Ruimveldt Secondary, St Stanislaus College,Adidas Ultra Boost Shoes Cheap, Tutorial High School, Christ Church Secondary, Brickdam Secondary, St Joseph Secondary, and St Roses High.The Chairman of the programme and District Education Officer (DEO) of Nursery, Hazel Answick,Cheap Nike Shox, said that in 1877 an ordinance to enforce elementary education in the British Guiana were enacted.Ms. Answick further said that in that period the DEO had the duty to ensure that all school aged children attend school, and to report to the secretary of the board of education all those parents who failed to allow their children to attend school to receive an education. However, during the 1940s those duties were given to the attendance officers and this was applied to the schools welfare programme in 1966.“During the nineteenth century, the main aim in the education system was regular attendance, and to ensure this was enforced regular attendance certificates were presented to children who made very high attendance….there were two types of certificates; the gold for those who made 95 per cent attendance for the academic school year, and the black for those who made 90 to 95 per cent.”Principal Education Officer of Georgetown, Marcel Hutson, said that students that are not in schools on time will suffer a tremendous setback in their final outcome. However, students from 36 schools will be honoured and recognised for their attendance and punctuality.Adding that the awards should serve as a motivation factor for other schools and for students, Hutson said that the teachers are not exempted from such an activity. There will be something in the national award ceremony to honour teachers,Air Max 97 Womens, he added.“We are serious about the delivery of education and we expect to work as a team. Together we can achieve the extraordinary…Education is the backbone of society, and a society that is not educated sufficiently and properly is a society that will lead to a state of backwardness, ” the Principal Education Officer told students.Assistant Chief Education Officer (Nursery) Miss Doodmattie Singh said,Calvin Ridley Jersey, the concepts and skill that will be necessary for future learning will be taken away from a child that misses classes, “If the child is absent it means that the child cannot do well at the examinations….This can be frustrating for the child as well as the teacher.”Singh added that in order for children to have a quality education, they must be present in school every day. However, Miss Singh challenged students to give positive peer pressure to their friends, so that they can receive certificates next year for their punctuality and attendance, and double the number of students that received certificates this year.
