| Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.The duo, Celestine Daniels and Hillary Matthews, both of Kariako Mission, Barama, made their appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry.It is alleged that on May 3 at Kokerite, North West District, the two miners had in their possession four 12-gauge shotgun cartridges, while not being firearm licence holders. Both men pleaded not guilty.It is also alleged that on the same day the men had one 12-gauge single barrel shotgun without a licence. The men again pleaded not guilty.Police Prosecutor Vonette Pindar told the court that on the day in question the men were on a hunting expedition with a third person. According to the Prosecutor, the gun accidentally went off killing the other individual.The court was further told that it was the sound of the gunshot which alerted police, who responded promptly and found the men with the weapon and the ammunition. According to the prosecutor, the men were arrested, and based on advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, the charges were laid.At that point the Chief Magistrate enquired from the police what they would be doing as it relates to the death of the third man who was on the hunting expedition.
