Anil Persaud was yesterday sentenced to three months in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of simple larceny. The accused, who was unrepresented, told the court that because he did not received his salary from the plaintiff, he broke into a storeroom and took the articles.The court was told that on March 23, last, at Howes Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, the accused broke into the storeroom of Dwayne Harcourt and carted off several tools, valued at $12,000.Harcourt, who was present in court, stated that he contracted the accused to weed some grass in front of his house. Before starting the job the accused requested “a raise” to “buy a smoke”, he was then given $200. Little did the plaintiff know that it would be the last day he would see Wright at his home. After those facts were related to the court, the accused exclaimed that he decided to commit the act because he was not paid after completing his job.The magistrate then told Wright that though the articles were of relatively small value it was unlawful for him to take matters into his own hands.With that Wright was sentenced to three months in the Camp Street prison.He was lead out of the courtroom saying, “When I stop smoking I gun get even”. |
