Guyanese in general must put pressure on the government to ensure that an investigation be lead into the activities of Roger Khan and his associates, whilst here in the country, given the revelations that have been emanating. This is according to Shadow Home Affairs Minister, Deborah Backer, who told media operatives, yesterday, that there must be collective pressure placed on the administration, to ensure that such an investigation becomes a reality. The party’s Chief Whip, Lance Carberry, who was also on hand at the press briefing, told media operatives that all and sundry have the responsibility to ensure that the government could pass the probity test.“Where there is a very clear case that the government has been involved in criminality, we expect the government to do what is necessary and if it is reluctant to do it,2018 World Cup Russia Jerseys, we have to continue as citizens to put pressure on them,” said Carberry. The government was not keen on having a witness protection service in place, so that there would be less reluctance for persons with knowledge that could be used as evidence against those implicated in any such investigation. As it related to the recent accusation by Robert Simels that seemingly implicates Minister of Health Dr Leslie Ramsammy, Backer said that the party was currently assessing the situation and will pronounce in detail in the future.“In any decent government, the Minister would have tendered his resignation, but obviously in this government the Minister doesn’t see it fit as his responsibility morally or otherwise to resign when a matter of this nature occurs,” said CarberryAccording to Backer, it could no longer be denied that Roger Khan was involved in the narco trade in Guyana and was head of a criminal enterprise in this country. She contended that the only thing left to be determined “is the nature and extent of the involvement of the Jagdeo Administration.”She pointed out that the evidence that has emerged from the court hearings, the information provided by American Government sources, and the revelations by Khan’s lawyers, point to the supportive involvement of the Jagdeo Administration.“In fact, what now seems beyond dispute, is that there was a long association between Roger Khan and the Jagdeo Administration. The facts are irrefutable.”She recalled that after Khan fled the Unites States, he returned to Guyana and was classified as a businessman and was awarded Government contracts, and purchased land which was approved by the Jagdeo Administration.“Yet, Dr. (Roger) Luncheon and President (Bharrat) Jagdeo, on different occasions, claimed that they did not know Roger Khan. This strains credulity.” |
