Despite reports from certain sections of the media claiming negative responses from operators of the Georgetown Municipal Wholesale Depot, the Georgetown City Council (M&CC) in a statement yesterday said that vendors have accepted a new fee of $1,500 per day to ply their trade.It was related that wholesale vendors operating at the Merriman Mall had previously been required to pay $300 to vend at the location.However, the significant increase to be implemented saw some media houses claiming that vendors were not happy with the situation.Reacting to these reports, the Municipality’s authority said they were unaware of what was being termed as “rising concerns” regarding the issue.Town Clerk Royston King said that there was no concern as far as the Council and the vendors were aware. The Town Clerk said too that the vendors are fully aware of the significant upgrade the facility has received, as well as the added amenities the vendors now have access to.“The vendors were quite happy to pay the fees given the improvements we made them aware of,” outlined the M&CC’s statement which added, “As far as we (Council) know, no one has registered any concern or complain about the matter. With the newly constructed stalls, vendors will not have to handle large trays and other equipment needed to display their produce.
