| West Demerara police are investigating an attempted burglary at the Bagotville Post Office over the holiday weekend.The broken wall which was used by the perpetrators to gain entry to the building.Kaieteur News understands that the would-be burglars,Edinson Cavani Paris Saint-Germain Jersey, after smashing the lower part of a concrete wall, entered the wooden building by ripping boards off the floor from beneath the building. Attempts were then made to open a safe by using a blowtorch, but for some reason, the job was not completed. There is speculation that the robbers were either interrupted by someone or something, or that the gas that powered the blowtorch ran out.A source close to the Post Office told this newspaper that the locks had been burnt off from the safe, but the safe itself did not appear to have been opened.The only things reportedly discovered missing were a fan and a scale that was used for weighing mail.The Bagotville Post Office closed off operations for the weekend at 11.00 hrs on Saturday until yesterday morning. When staff members reported for duty yesterday they observed the surroundings in disarray and immediately reported the matter to the Police Station, which is situated two buildings away.Members of the public who required postal and other services were unable to conduct business at the facility yesterday.Police have commenced investigations. |
