| Berbice is bracing itself for three days of blackout after a vessel ran into the pump house of the Canefield Power Station.Yesterday,Christian Pulisic Dortmund Shirts, the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) said that it will have to cut power to certain sections until emergency works are completed tomorrow.The damaged pump house at Canefield.According to the state-owned power company, the pump house suffered extensive structural damage caused by the vessel.“Consequently,Willian Jersey, the raw water pumps that provide cooling water for the two Mirrlees Diesel Generators are inoperable and the machines are out of service. In the absence of the 9MW provided by these generators, GPL will be unable to satisfy energy requirements during the peak demand period from 18:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs.”Apologising for the outages,Axel Tuanzebe Jersey, the company said it is forced to reduce power during hours of peak demand until tomorrow.“Customers are urged to conserve electricity during peak period to assist in the quality of electricity supplied,” GPL said in its statement.Last evening, Onverwagt to Bygeval between Number 53 to Number 76 Villages was set to experience the first of the load-shedding.This evening, areas between Onverwagt and Ithaca,Alex Bono Jersey, and Republic Road,Manchester City Jersey, New Amsterdam are scheduled to be in darkness between 18:00hrs and 23:00 hrs.Tomorrow,Michael Bradley Jersey, areas between Canje and Auchlyne will be disconnected during the same period.Berbice depends heavily on Wartsila sets at the Skeldon sugar estate and at Canefield for its power supply.Canefield is located along the Canje River and the vessel was reportedly on that waterway when it somehow ran into the pump house. |
