| What started out as a simple school project in Annandale West, East Coast Demerara, has now grown into a full-blown education programme for children of that community.Earlier this year,Tonny Vilhena Netherland Jersey, 14-year-old Vahid Sarju, a student of School of the Nations,Arjen Robben Netherland Jersey, was given a class assignment for his Peace Study class.14 year-old Zahid Sarju and his mother Bibi Nasleen Khan Sarju with some of their students at a recent graduation exercise The young Sarju decided to facilitate afternoon classes for two weeks for children between the ages of six and 11 in order to gain points for his class assignment.According to Sarju,Paddy McNair Manchester Jersey, when he first started the classes, what was most alarming to him was the fact that in his mind the children who started the classes were way below their academic capacity.“I was shocked; I couldn’t believe that some 10-year-olds couldn’t even form letters. There were others who couldn’t even write their names,” Sarju said.After recognizing this shortcoming of the children, Sarju was saddened and wanted to help. He said that he discussed the issue with his class teacher, who advised that if he could manage, he could keep the class running.Ever since, Sarju,Ezequiel Garay Argentina Jersey, with the help of his mother, has been giving free classes to children of the Annandale West community.The class has grown from four children to 16.Meanwhile,Dortmund Shirts, people may ask how Sarju manages the classes while he has his studies as well.The boy said that he is the only child for his single-parent mother, so when he gets home in the afternoon he starts the classes at 16:00 hours.“I have asked my mother to help out because there are times when I may get home a little late because of transportation. She would start the classes for me if I reach late and when I get there I would take over or we would work together with the children,” Sarju explained.Sarju said that he and his mother currently conduct Mathematics, English and Phonics classes with the children.Sarju’s mother,Patrick van Aanholt Jersey, Bibi Nasleen Khan Sarju, said that she is pleased with the initiative her son has taken to assist the children and more so, she too from the onset of the classes, was inspired to assist because of the needs of the children. |
