The Croton Falls Volunteer Fire Team Ladies Auxiliary held their traditional penny social fund raising evening on Saturday at the firehouse.
Kathy Magnuson, women of all ages auxiliary treasurer, explained how it works. Folks donate items throughout the year as well as auxiliary puts these presented at the penny social. Whenever people arrive, they buy tickets in the door, each ticket expenses a penny.
"There are 25 seat tickets on a card, four playing cards for a dollar," Magnuson explained. "Most people spend about $5. You then walk around and look at Moncler Uk all of the things that are on the tables when you see something you like, you set a ticket in the jar."
At the end of the night, they call out each item and tug a winning ticket from the package. "It works like a raffle," the lady said. In addition, there were sweepstakes tickets for donations like gift certificates from Who's Food preparation? and the Katonah Restaurant. There was also a 50/50 raffle and door prize.
At the same time dozens of people sat all over big round tables ingesting chili, hot dogs and sugars, drinking coffee, playing cards, chattering and waiting for the statistics to be called.
Karen Roach, receiver of taxes regarding North Salem and a member of women auxiliary, said, "It's a nice neighborhood night out. Good friends. Good jokes. Casual, relaxed and cozy."
