The best part about political cartooning, reported by Jesse Springer, who practices the skill, is that for inspiration, "you simply just kind of read the paper all the details you need comes right to your step."

"That's the one thing cartoonists can do in their own geographic areas that will newspapers can't get on the net somewhere else," he said. "My primary goal was to start local and then get broader and also broader, but the trend now's more and more the opposite."

The good part of the experience had been "becoming familiar with libel laws in this state," Springer said. "I really did not know much about it before. However consider myself pretty meticulous about not basing some sort of cartoon on anything that were included in news reporting."
Even though he "always had some ability and interest in fine art," he didn't take it up until after he graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.
